Dear Parents and Carers

National Child Protection Week

3 - 9 September 2023

The purpose of Child Protection Week is to engage, educate and empower Australians to understand the complexities of child abuse and neglect and work together to prevent it.

At St Joseph's we have an unwavering commitment to child safety and it sits at the heart of everything we do.

The theme for 2023 Child Protection Week is 'Where we start matters'. The frequency and complexity of concerns related to child abuse and neglect are increasing. School communities have an important role to play in keeping children safe, educating children for their protection and working together with families to ensure the safety of children.

This is an important week to also highlight what the school does year round for child safety. At St Joseph's students participate in specific units of learning related to Child Protection, Respectful relationships and Sexuality Education.

For Parents and Carers

The newsletter regularly contains information related to child safety from the eSafety commissioner. Families have access to Happy Families via our school subscription, and each year we provide you with an evening workshop which was held earlier this term.

The safety of your child is always our first priority. We have embedded the Child Safe Standards into our culture and practices and we continually seek to inform and involve families in students’ learning and wellbeing.

Supporting the needs of students and ensuring they can empower themselves to remain safe and protected is the responsibility of the entire community. The attachment below may assist you in opening up conversations with your child/ren. These conversations in families need to begin early and continue right throughout childhood and adolescence.

For all things at St Joseph's, we give thanks.

Mrs Jen Charadia

When students attain their 4th Principal Award, they are awarded a Principal’s Medallion at an assembly. End of Term awards can be included as part of the 5 awards.
