Languages Competition
Last week throughout the state, Education Perfect, an online languages learning platform, conducted a Tasmanian Regional Languages Competition. Students had to complete questions in both English and the target language they are studying here at Southern Christian College to gain points. Several keen, committed students joined together every lunchtime to compete.
At noon on Friday the competition ended. After a close chase from Taroona High School, the students from Southern persevered to beat Taroona High by a mere 696 points. Out of 22 Schools in Tasmania our students managed to win first place in the competition overall. SCC also gained first place in Japanese and Indonesian language in the state.

Grade 9 Japanese Languages student, Fiona Buruzukrindhi, came fourth overall in the state out of a total of 853 registered students and obtained a gold level. Hettie Holland achieved silver, with several other students achieving bronze and credits. A huge congratulations to these students!

Grade 10 Careers Morning
As part of the Grade 10 Careers program, Grade 10 students were involved in listening to speakers from the Defence Forces, UTAS and MAS Experience (apprenticeships and ASBA's) who provided information in relation to potential career pathways. Students chose the presentation that they wanted to attend. This year UTAS (and general information about universities) was by far the most popular. The presenters showed PowerPoints and explained relevant details about their respective areas and provided useful guidance for students.
Students engaged in the question time after the presentations and were able to gain advice and help in their interest areas. The presentations added valuable information to aid students in their Transition Planning and provided further discussion points for their interviews.
Special thanks to Charlotte (UTAS), Jeremy and Jamie (Defence Forces), and Matthew (MAS Experience - apprenticeships) for their helpful and knowledgeable contribution to the students on possible career choices.
