Teachers vs Students Soccer Game

La Copa del Mundo en Newlands

Last Friday marked an unforgettable afternoon at Newlands Primary as the winners of our Newlands Mini Soccer World Cup, Venezuela, played against an inspired team of teachers, led by their inner Matildas. The energy was electric, and it was amazing to see our students gather to cheer on both teams. Scarlett, Addison, and Veronica added to the excitement as they took on the role of commentators. Our sport leaders were the referees, ensuring a fair match.

The first half had intense competition, with near misses on both sides. Raema and Sergio had promising opportunities for the teachers, while Atlas had a close encounter with the goal for Venezuela. Despite the efforts, the first half concluded with a 0-0 score.

In the second half, the teachers turned up the heat, securing the ball and having more attacks. Luke opened the scoring for the teachers just five minutes in, followed by Simon's goal three minutes later. But let's not forget the incredible performance of Darcy, the Venezuela's goalkeeper, who pulled off three remarkable saves, keeping their team in the game. A few minutes later, our students responded with their impressive tiki-taka skills, and their determination paid off with an own goal by the teachers' team.

As the game neared its end, Venezuela made a final push but couldn't find the net again. The match concluded with a 2-1 victory for the teachers.

I would like to express my gratitude to all students, staff, and parents for their enthusiastic support throughout this incredible tournament. It has been an absolute blast, and we appreciate everyone's dedication to making it a memorable event.

Yours faithfully,

Raul - Health and PE teacher
