What a term!

There are only 5 days left of Term 3! The last week of term is always our favourite as we switch to 100% Spanish for the week. This term we are learning about the country Chile, with a focus on Fiesta Patrias. As always, there will be our whole school Cultural Week Celebration which begins at 1:30pm next Friday 15th, with students being dismissed at 2:30pm. How do we sum up Term 3 in one word? Massive!
Here is a list of all the great things that happened at Newlands Primary School in Term 3-
The school celebrated NAIDOC Week, Purple Day and Father’s Day! Why these events? These were voted by our school community on what days we wanted to ensure our students were involved in.
It was a very active term – We had the Newlands Athletics Day, the District Athletics carnival and this week celebrated National Health and PE day at Coburg Athletic Track.
Our F/1s celebrated 100 days of school at Newlands and also had the experience of an excursion down at CERES.
Our 2/3s went off to Camp Campaspe Downs, played Aeroball and confidently flew over a monster lake on a flying fox. They also visited the Immigration Museum to coincide with their Inquiry topic.
Our 4/6s went on Snow Camp (our first one!) which was a massive success in between attending Athletics day and Interschool Sport. Congratulations to our Softball team whom made the final. It is incredible to believe this considering, Interschool Sport didn’t exist at the school 3 years ago. It is also a very exciting time for some of our students whom will be performing at John Cain arena this weekend for the State School’s Spectacular.
There were some fantastic incursions over the term with Dance N Schools coming into the school over a four week period and with Dream City being one of the big talking points of the term coinciding with Science Week. We also celebrated Book Week and had such a fantastic book parade with some of the best costumes the world has ever seen!
We opened up the classrooms for parents to come in and we have just finished another round of Parent Teacher Interviews.
We had another Working Bee, Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser, Yes2023 Voice to Parliament Information Sessions and an incredible evening in Thornbury for the Comedy Gala. Our Spanish subcommittee continue to provide opportunities for families to learn Spanish at school and once again had a dinner catch up at Neruda’s Brunswick.
We have began the journey for our 2024 Foundation students and families transition into primary school and our community which is always very exciting and finally, the other part of the school with all those new buildings have been humming along and look like they will be ready for a 2024 start.
And this is on top of all the great learning that takes place day in and day out. A big thank you to all of our families on Sub Committees, families that have been active in the organisation and performing at School Events, and families who attended school events and working bees. It is one of the reasons that Newlands is such a great community. On top of this, the school has received fantastic results in relation to NAPLAN, Parent Opinion Survey and Attitudes to School Survey. As always, we are trying to improve to ensure that the Newlands continues to be safe and provide an engaging learning environment!
