What’s happening in Espanyol?

¡Hola a todos!

It’s hard to believe we’re half-way through term three. Señora Monroy has prepared a busy schedule for the students as they continue their Spanish language journey in the second half of the year.

Year 1 and 2: El zoológico. Who doesn’t love the zoo? Students will be learning about animals and colours. From El pingüino blanco, negro to El león amarillo – they’re going to have a colourful time ahead.

Year 3 students will channel their inner Picasso, crafting portraits and describing them in Spanish: La cara rosa, La nariz verde, and El ojo azul. Artistic flair meets language mastery.

Year 4: Sports and Familia. Students will showcase their sports preferences, while delving into family relationships broadening their linguistic horizons learning new expressions like Me gusta el fútbol and No me gusta escribir.

In Year 5 students will consider Nature's Wonders, diving into structural adaptations with phrases like La jirafa tiene cuello largo and Cocodrilo tiene dientes afilados

In Year 6, the focus will be on creating fashion advertisements and learning about clothes, blending vocabulary from past units such as places, weather, colours – and expressing likes and dislikes. Hace frío. Yo llevo un abrigo negro

These remarkable journeys illuminate the boundless possibilities of language acquisition, fostering creativity, connection, and confidence.

Indonesian Study Tour

An exciting Indonesian Study Tour is happening next year in June! This incredible opportunity is open to students in Years 9 to 12 in 2024. While the tour is tailored for those learning Indonesian, all curious students are welcome to join.

The tour itinerary promises an enriching experience with visits to various captivating locations. Travellers will explore Jakarta, the vibrant national capital, be immersed in Sundanese culture in the history of Bandung, a city with a rich past, discover Yogyakarta, the royal centre of Javanese culture. And of course, finish up in the exotic beauty of Bali. The estimated cost per student is $4,000, covering comfortable accommodation, all transportation (both air and land), meals, and attractions according to the itinerary.

An information evening was held at the College on Wednesday, August 16. But if you missed it and would like some information about the tour or a copy of the proposed itinerary, please reach out to me at the College. (srogers@aitkencollege.edu.au

Year 10 Bahasa Indonesia – memasak di dapur

Pak Sukiman and Ibu Raida have taken Indonesian language from the classroom into the kitchen making klepon – an Indonesian take on the lamington. To make these delicious green coconutty sweets, the students needed to follow the recipe written in Indonesian. What better way to put your Indonesian comprehension skills to the test! If you’d like to try klepon at home, here’s a link to the recipe, in English.
