Term 3 Week 8

Making Music with Mrs Murphy!

Welcome to the Music Room for Semester Two. We’ve been having a great time down in the Music room this semester and really challenging ourselves playing the ukuleles and learning new skills.

It has been a huge learning curve for the students to show their persistence and resilience whilst learning the chords on the ukuleles. Some of the chords make our fingers go in tricky positions, but we are getting there (even Mrs Murphy is!). Another learning curve we've had is working out which hand we play the ukuleles. Some children who are right hand dominant are finding playing the ukulele left-hand much more comfortable and vice versa!

We've been using 'Ukulaliens' on YouTube to help us practise our strumming a chord changes. The chords we have learnt are C, F, A Minor, G7 and G. G chord is proving to be VERY challenging as we need to use 3 fingers on the ukulele neck.

'Riptide' is our current song challenge at the moment. We are having a laugh as we try to play, sing and chord change during the song.

I'm so proud of all the children in Years 3-6 who've been challenging themselves learning this new skill. Learning new skills requires a lot of patience, persistence and positive attitudes!

I'm on the hunt for any plastic bread tags we can use for picks whilst we play. If you have any lying around we would LOVE to put them to good use!

Below are some snaps of the ukuleles in action! Stay tuned for an end of Term Assembly performance for some children!

Here are our ukulele chords (right-handed, left-handed is opposite) and the chords for 'Riptide'!
