Principal's Report

Jane Briffa | Principal

Dear Skye Families,

What a fantastic Book Week parade we had last week. A big shout out to all of our families for going to so much effort for your children. Thank you to those who were able to take time out to join us at the parade. Everyone looked amazing and the excitement was electric. Aside from being a super fun day, it is a wonderful week for promoting books and the love of reading. We would love to open the library for one morning a week so that families can enjoy our beautiful reading spaces and share a book before school. Watch this space for more news once we are set up and ready to open the doors.

A few of our younger students created a report for Skye News about the large number of books that are being returned damaged with torn or missing pages and writing scribbled in them. Our wonderful librarian Rachel is having to spend a vast majority of her time on repairs. Please ensure that when students bring our beautiful books home from the library that the utmost care is taken to look after them and they are returned to school in a library bag each week.

We are waiting very patiently for the works to begin on our student toilet upgrades. Plans have been finalised so we are now just waiting on a start date. We have also received notification that our submission for a grant to upgrade the old administration building is under consideration by the government. This was supported by a letter from Sonya Kilkenny. We should hear something in December so fingers crossed for a good outcome. These grants are difficult to get but we would like to start campaigning for funding for phase 2 of our school upgrades. It was thanks to our school council and parent support that we were able to attract our capital project funds for our gym and admin block. Anyone interested in Buildings and Grounds are welcome to contact the office or join our sub-committee. Your input really counts.

We look forward to hosting many of our dads, grandads, uncles and mums at our Fathers and Special Persons breakfast on Friday. Wishing you all a lovely weekend ahead celebrating with the special men in your lives and remembering those who are no longer with us.

Have a wonderful fortnight ahead!
