Connect: Year 6

As we come towards the end of term, we thought that it might be a good time to remind you to touch base with your children about not only how to be safe online, but also how they need to act appropriately themselves to avoid any trouble.

Please remind them to keep the tips below in mind when they are communicating online.

Safety tips for kids

Never share personal information online.

Don’t respond to emails, texts, or messages from strangers.

Don’t post or share photos online.

Don’t click links, open attachments, or accept gifts from someone you don’t know.

Also, remind them to avoid instigating any trouble themselves by remembering that whatever they place online has a digital footprint that can be tracked back to them.

The online world is amazing and has changed the way the last generation of people have lived their lives, but it needs to be respected and never used to cause harm to others.

What's happening in our classrooms?

Literacy:

The students have been incredibly impressive with the efforts that they have shown with their reading.  We have had a particular interest in building our vocabulary.  This will halp in all areas of Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing.

In writing, students will continue learning how to persuade a reader to agree with their opinion. They have completed an introduction and plan exceptionally well. The students have shown strong arguments and used very high modality vocabulary.

Mathematics:

In Mathemetics over the next couple of weeks, we will be looking at BODMAS (Order of Operations)  It’s important to know which operation to do before the other so we can achieve the right answer.  Take this visual problem for example.  If you just try and solve it left to right you’ll end up getting 270, but if you solve it in the correct order and do the multiplication before the addition, you’ll get the correct answer of 186.  It takes a bit of thinking , but it’s important!

We’ll also be looking at data representation.  I like this graph below as it isn’t just ranking success on Premierships.  Take a look and see what you think!

Wellbeing:  We will be continuing to look at Gender and Identity and the importance of Human Rights.
