The Next Fortnight of Learning

Literacy

Students have been applying phonics knowledge they have been gaining through the year through the use of decodable texts. While referring back to the text students answer a range of questions related to sounds, comprehension and predictions.

Our current phonics focus has been oi as in  u as in 'pull' and ou as in 'could'. During the next few weeks students will review the phonemes that have been taught throughout the Term. This review will help to solidify their grapheme knowledge.

Maths

In math the focus has been on fair share. Students have been exploring the times in their lives when they share such as lollies, cookies, and toys. This is the early stages of division where the focus is on using physical items to practice sharing into equal groups.  Using words such as groups of, equal, fair share, skip counting and sharing. Students have also been practicing their mathematician skill of 'sharing their thinking'. This is an important skill as it allows students to better understand their own and others ideas.

Inquiry

The focus for our inquiry unit this term is Materials that Change Shape. Students are exploring the actions of bending, stretching, twisting, rolling and squeezing.  It has been fun practicing these changes with lolly snakes, play-doh, paper and yoga.

Wellbeing

Our Term 3 topic for Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships is Positive Coping. Throughout the term students will engage in activities that assist them to reflect on their emotional responses, describe ways to express emotions in a healthy manner and practice techniques to deal with feelings of fear, frustration and anger. Learning a range of positive coping skills will enable students to better navigate future changes and challenges.
