Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear Families of Our Lady Star of the Sea,

This week holds deep spiritual and national significance as we honour two important events in our school and wider community: the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians (May 24) and National Reconciliation Week (May 27 – June 3), beginning with National Sorry Day on May 26.

comfort and strength for Catholics across the country since 1844. Mary teaches us to walk in faith and respond to others with compassion, courage, and care. She reminds us that helping others—especially those who are vulnerable—is not only a Christian calling but a deeply human one.

On Monday, our students will participate in a special liturgy to honour Mary and reflect on how they can be “helpers” in their own way: through kindness, service, and standing up for what is right.

Mary, Help of Christians, watch over our nation and guide our leaders. Help us to walk gently on this land, honouring its First Peoples. Give us courage to speak truth, humility to listen, and strength to build bridges of understanding. May our hearts be open to love, our actions guided by faith, and our future shaped by reconciliation and peace.

Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us. Amen.

Theme: “Bridging Now to Next”

As we celebrate Mary’s faithfulness and guidance, we also pause to acknowledge National Sorry Day—a time to reflect on the grief and healing of the Stolen Generations and commit ourselves to building a more just and compassionate future.

This flows into National Reconciliation Week, with this year’s powerful theme: “Bridging Now to Next” The National Reconciliation Week 2025 theme urges us to look ahead and continue the push forward towards a more united and respectful nation as past lessons guide us.

This theme encourages all of us—educators, families, and students—to recognise the importance of acting now with integrity and hope, while learning from the past to build a stronger, more inclusive next.

At school this week, students will engage in learning experiences that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and highlight the importance of reconciliation. As a Catholic school, we are committed to listening with humility, walking with respect, and working together for healing and justice.

May this week inspire us all to follow Mary’s example by standing with those in need, lifting up those who are unheard, and walking forward in faith and unity.

God Bless,

Mrs Maria Rose
