Thank you to all parents, grandparents and special friends who came to support their special person at our Preps Prayers in Pyjamas session on Wednesday afternoon.
The preppies looked gorgeous and cosy in their PJ's as did their teachers in their Bluey PJs.
The focus of our session was prayer and the importance of prayer to build a relationship with God. The children were involved in many prayer experiences including singing, creating items for their personal prayer spaces, learning formal prayers and learning how the pray the Sign of the Cross. Hopefully this introduction to prayer will foster a lasting relationship with God and a deeper understanding that Jesus is our friend.
On Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, one of the most important celebrations in the church's calendar when we remember how the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples, filling them with courage and strength. It is often called the “birthday of the Church” because it was the beginning of the disciples going out to share the Good News with the world.
The Holy Spirit gave the disciples many gifts, and those gifts are still given to us today. These include Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel (Right Judgement), Fortitude (Courage), Knowledge, Piety (Reverence), and Fear of the Lord (Wonder and Awe in God’s presence). Each gift helps us in different ways.
As we celebrate Pentecost, we are reminded that the Holy Spirit is with us every day. We are not alone. The Spirit helps us love more, forgive more, and live more like Jesus. Let us pray that we may always be open to these gifts, and use them to bring peace, hope, and joy to others.
This weekend we will be celebrating the Feast of Pentecost at Mass with a fire, smores and readings in many different languages. All are welcome to join us in celebrating the church's birthday!
Don't forget to wear your beanies next Friday 13th June and bring a gold coin donation for a very worthy cause!
