Principal's News

All students attending St Louis de Montfort's Aspendale have

 the right to feel safe.

The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people

is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.

St Louis de Montfort is Celebrating 60 years

As winter begins to settle in, we’ve certainly been feeling those crisp, chilly mornings. I have certainly shared this with many families during morning duty chats.  However, it’s been lovely to see the sun shining throughout the day, bringing some warmth and brightness to our school grounds.

It was also great to see our Prep students coming to school in their pyjamas on Wednesday as they participated in 'Prayers in Pyjamas.' One child told me that 'it was so much fun and it was the best day of her life.' A huge thank you to our amazing Prep team and Mrs Douglas for all the work they did to ensure each child in their care continues their faith journey.

This weekend we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost—the birthday of the Church and a reminder of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives. As the Spirit came upon the disciples in tongues of fire, may it inspire us all to be people of courage, compassion and unity. During the weekend Masses s'mores will be shared.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill our hearts with your warmth and wisdom. May our homes be places of peace and joy. Help us to be kind, safe and strong in all we do. Amen.

A few reminders and updates for the week ahead:

Child Safety

Please support us in ensuring that no students play on the playground equipment before or after school. In particular, the tank playground is not suitable for our junior students at any time. Staff supervision is not provided during these times, and safety is our top priority.

Safe Travel to School

It’s fantastic to see so many families riding and walking to school—it’s a wonderful way to stay active and reduce congestion. A friendly reminder that students must use bikes safely on bike paths and nearby roads. E-bikes and e-scooters are not permitted to be used by students. I have included a snippet on the Legal e-scooter use from the Victorian Police website.

Legal e-scooter use

Use of e-scooters is legalised in Victoria.

You can legally ride an e-scooter in Victoria if you:

ride on:

  • shared-use paths (not on footpaths), or
  • roads that have a speed limit up to 60km/h
  • are at least 16 years old
  • wear a helmet
  • do not travel more than 20km/h
  • do not use your mobile phone
  • do not carry a passenger (dink)

Helmets must be worn at all times, and we ask families to continue encouraging safe riding habits.

Please also continue to use the car park with safety. This means using the crossing to cross the road, respecting the drop off zone by not leaving your car as you say goodbye to your child(ren) and using the middle car parks if you intend taking your child to their class. This way we can all continue to work together to ensure the safety of our community.

What’s Happening at St Louis?

  • This Thursday and Friday, the Sempar Dental Van will be visiting to provide dental care for our students. It’s a great opportunity for families to access preventative dental health services on-site.
  • Our Prep students will be engaging in a fun and hands-on Craft Power Workshop, where they will design and create their own wooden constructions. I can’t wait to see their creations!
  • On the 13th of June, we will be having a fundraiser for Beanies for Brain Cancer. We ask our students to wear a beanie and bring in a gold coin. All donations will go to brain cancer research.

On Friday during our school closure we welcomed Fr Andrew, Fr Huy , other members of the Parish and the staff from St Brigid's. We were lucky enough to engage in learning with Fr Rob Galea with a focus on 'Pilgrims of Hope.' This was truly a moving spiritual experience where we were provided with stories of hope, opportunities to reflect and the invitation to listen to the beautiful singing voice of Fr Rob.

With the long weekend ahead, I hope all our families find time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the company of loved ones. Whether it’s a winter walk, camping, sporting events or time away, I hope you’re able to share in small, joyful moments together.

Wishing you a safe and relaxing long weekend, and a fabulous week ahead.
