Master Chef Challenge

The Maribyrnong MasterChef Challenge made an exciting debut this year, bringing energy and some friendly competition to our school kitchen.
Eight pairs of students took on the challenge, keen to demonstrate their culinary skills and creativity by transforming everyday ingredients into impressive dishes. Each team received a mystery box containing chicken, chickpeas, firm tofu, lemons, dark chocolate, honey, pumpkin, beetroot, Granny Smith apples, basmati rice, puff pastry, pear, and polenta.
Their task: to use at least three of these ingredients, along with pantry staples, to create one well-presented dish in 90 minutes.
The kitchen was soon filled with incredible aromas, and contestants raced the clock to cook and plate their creations.
Highlights included:
Sticky Lemon Tofu
Lemon Tart
Chicken Biryani
Rainbow Terrine
Chicken Curry
Caramel Apple Puff Pastries.
The quality of the dishes made judging a challenge in itself.
It was a close contest, and after careful tasting and discussion, the judges awarded the runners-up Avyukt & Aryahi Chintala for their Muglai Chicken served with Rice Puff Pastry Naan and Tofu .
The winning dish came from Lana Diep & Linda Jin of year 7 whose Lemon Tarts with Caramelised Apple stole the show.
A special thanks to our judges, Ms Butera, Ms Fiasco, Mr Mcallion and Mr O’Connor, for generously giving their time to support the event. True foodies at heart, you approached the role with enthusiasm and professionalism, and the Food Studies team, along with all the students, were incredibly grateful for your expertise.
More than just a competition, the Maribyrnong MasterChef Challenge celebrated creativity, teamwork and the joy of cooking.
Congratulations to all students involved. We look forward to seeing what next year’s challenge will bring!
