Wellbeing

Hi St Mary’s families,

It’s great to be back after my long service leave! While my time away didn’t quite go to plan, it gave me the chance to support my family, which I’m really grateful for. I’ve missed being here and am so happy to be back with everyone. A huge thank you to Sharon Hynes for keeping our wellbeing initiatives running while I was away, and to our wonderful leadership team and staff for stepping up in so many ways. I appreciate you all!

Winter Has Arrived! Let’s Stay Warm & Energised!

With frosty mornings settling in, we encourage families to make sure students are dressed warmly in their winter school uniform. Layering up with jumpers, jackets, and scarves will help keep them comfortable and focused throughout the day.

Although the cold makes staying indoors tempting, movement and fresh air are still vital for learning. Research shows that short outdoor breaks improve concentration, memory, and overall well being. We encourage students to rug up, get outside at recess and lunchtime, and enjoy an energy boost to help them power through the day.

Winter Tips for Keeping Warm & Motivated at School

Layer Up: Wearing the correct school winter attire with navy scarves and gloves to stay cosy and comfortable all day.

Stay Active: A brisk walk to school or some stretching in the morning gets the blood flowing and boosts energy levels.

Fuel Up with Warm Foods: A filling breakfast, like oatmeal, porridge or eggs, and a thermos of warm soup for lunch can help keep students focused and

ready to learn.

Embrace the Outdoors: Fresh air and movement breaks improve concentration, even on chilly days! This is why we encourage our studnets to get outside and stay active.

Find Motivation in Small Wins: Setting little goals, like completing a reading challenge or solving a tricky maths problem. It helps keep students engaged, even when the cold makes it tempting to slow down.

As we are well into flu season, we kindly ask families to keep an eye out for cold and flu symptoms in students. If your child is feeling unwell, experiencing fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue, the best place for them to be is at home, resting, keeping up fluids, and allowing time to recover.

Staying home when sick not only helps them get better faster but also prevents the spread of illness to classmates and staff.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school community healthy!

A Busy Time for Our Teachers

This part of the term is always a big one for our teachers, as they work hard on report writing, assessments, and gathering further understanding of your child’s progress. These reports are an important way to track student learning, and we truly appreciate the time and effort our educators put into making them meaningful and informative.

Catching Up on Emails!

After my leave, my inbox has been overflowing! I’ve been working through emails this week and really appreciate your patience as I get back to everyone.

Thank you for your ongoing support. I’m looking forward to a fantastic second half of the term with our amazing school community!
