Our Learning - Weeks 8 & 9

During this fortnight in the 3-and 4-year-old kindergarten, the children have been undertaking learning in the following areas:

Pre-Reading:

Identifying the first letter in their names, exploring the sounds the letter makes and brainstorming other words that start with that letter.

Telling the story behind the pictures they have created.

Reading stories based on the pictures.

Pre-Writing:  Writing names or mark making to identify their artwork.

Strengthening and refining our fine motor muscles through the use of dough and clay, threading activities, picking up small items.

Using Tommy Turtle language and cards to write names.

STEM :  Developing an understanding one-to-one correspondence while counting objects from one to 10.

Researching the impact pollution has on the oceans and other waterways and the creatures that inhabit these.

Inquiry : Our World, our future- developing an understanding of the impact our actions have on the environment now and in the future.

Exploring what happens to the items that we recycle.

Looking at the ways in which we can use recycled items such as boxes, cardboard tubes and old paintings in our art creations.

Cleaning up the rubbish contained in small world scenes and exploring where the rubbish comes from and the impact it has on the animals that live there.

Making signs for the recycling bins.

Social & emotional learning : Focusing on how our body feels when we have different emotions.

Recognising how others feel using body language and verbal language.

Continuing to explore the Zones of Regulation to identify how we are feeling, what made them feel that way and implementing strategies we can use to return to the 'green zone.'
