Angling Club News

On Saturday 17 May, the Angling Club hit the road to try their luck at Yellow Rock. A maximum of 11 degrees and a southerly wind was forecast with a high probability of rain. on arrival, it was clear that Yellow Rock was unsafe to fish, next we tried Crumpets Beach which we found to also be unsafe, so we settled on fishing the Lee Breakwater.

We welcomed Dylan Radley to the Angling Club and it was pleasing to see the resilience of our anglers and despite the trying conditions. Unfortunately there were no bites, apart from the few little pickers eating the bait. The low fishing action provided an opportunity to practice knot tying and give the anglers tips on baiting and the importance of the hook point sticking out of the bait.  Although there were no fish for esky, the day ended with an enjoyable BBQ lunch.

This was the last trip  for Term Two. Our next fishing excursion is on 13 September with the venue to be confirmed (either Killarney Beach or Hopkins River Warrnambool).

Happy fishing and tight lines.

Athletics

Congratulations to all the College athletes that started their day on a 6am bus to compete at ICCES in Melbourne.

The first event of the day was the 1500m, with the girls age groups running first, and locking in some admirable runs. The boys age groups ran next, and the exceptional performances continued into these races, with a highlight coming from Mania Bremner, who took 1st place. Throughout the day, the excitement continued as events were taking place all over the venue.

We saw phenomenal performances from the following athletes:

  • Sas Gould - 1st in discuss and shot put
  • Grace O’Sullivan - 1st in long jump
  • Teddy Dabernig - 1st in discus
  • Misha Wear - 1st in javelin.
  • Yolanda O’Sullivan - 2nd in 800m, 3rd in 400m, long jump and triple jump

Despite the size of our team being significantly smaller than the other schools competing, we managed to fill almost every event with at least one person. A huge thank you to Grace Potter and Oli Credlin who filled in for a number of events and gave their all. Through these efforts, we took away several ribbons from a wide range of events, and once again, brought home the Star Trophy. Continuing the long streak of getting The Hamilton and Alexandra College etched in time.

We would like to say a big thank you to the staff who sacrificed their time to come along and support the team, ran events and helped with marshalling. Congratulations to our other place getters, including Louis Lazzari, Annika Fitzsimmons, Alex Hill, Angus Heazlewood, Olivia Porter, and Mariana Novikov.

Football

On Wednesday 21 May, we had our Intermediate boys football team play in the GD football competition. We had a squad of 21 eager players play at Pedrina Park, and we started the day with a big win over Portland Secondary. The team played a good team brand of footy, with plenty of run and carry.

We lost our second game against Monivae. The boys fought hard but were ultimately beaten by a better team. We regrouped and carried on from earlier with solid wins over a combined Heywood - Good Shepherd side, Baimbridge College and Bayview College.

Some great performers on the day were Bailey Clarke, Harry Mercer, George Clark and Oli Credlin. Some young boys like Darcy Potter, Darcy Clarke and Lucas Harper stood up in key moments and helped us get over the line. Thanks to Miss Dixon for organising the day and keeping everything running smoothly and to Rosie the Gappy for timekeeping.
