Boarding
Mr Andrew Monk
Boarding has changed significantly from what it once was. No longer a case of “living at school full-time,” boarders often return home on weekends to pursue their personal interests and passions.
Among our talented boarders pursuing their passion on the weekend is Year 12 student Charlie Ingham, competing in Motocross.
Last weekend, Charlie competed in the South Australian Motocross Championships, finishing 1st in his division and placing 10th overall in the state — a truly outstanding achievement. This weekend, he heads to Mildura to compete in the Victorian Championships, followed by the All-Australian Championships in Casterton later in the term.
Motocross and enduro racing demand intense physical endurance, mental resilience, and exceptional skill over long hours — a challenge Charlie meets with humility and determination. Despite his success, Charlie remains modest, and many in our community are only just learning of his accomplishments. We’re proud to celebrate Charlie’s achievements and the diversity of passions pursued by our boarders. Their stories reflect the evolving nature of boarding life — one that supports balance, ambition, and excellence both on and off campus.
We congratulate Charlie on his recent success and wish him all the best in the Vic Champs and All Australian Champs.
Our annual Boarding Assembly was held this week and was a great success. Henrietta Russell, with the support of Henry Russell, led the organisation of the event and put together an outstanding program. With Henry away, I thank Jack Jarvis for stepping in to present Henry’s speech — a fantastic contribution.
The assembly highlighted the diverse talents within our Boarding House and truly reflected the spirit of the College. For many boarders, it was their first time speaking at an assembly, and I was incredibly impressed by their preparation and confidence. A special mention goes to Harry Dorahy, who delivered an impromptu speech — well done!
The Boardo Band lit up the stage with a fantastic rock performance. Clive Dunstan, Sarah Crowle, Lily Giles, Alex Hill, and Will Legoe turned it on for the audience.
Importantly, we also celebrated our new Boarding Committee, who were proudly presented with their badges on stage. This year’s committee is the largest we’ve ever had, reflecting the strong passion among our students to give back and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Boarding House. Well done, and congratulations to all of our boarders who were involved in the assembly.
Our 2025 Boarding House Committee:
Our pastoral system Orah allows the family and staff to all know of the whereabouts of our boarders. This system also allows for good planning and smooth operations. As you can imagine with over 120 boarders, fulltime and casual, the operation of boarding can be quite complex when planning staffing, travel, meals, and activities.
I have requested boarders to complete their forthcoming weekend leave by the Wednesday evening (House meeting and supper time). If families can work this schedule into their week, that would be much appreciated.
