Years 2 & 3

There has been some great learning happening in 2/3 over the past couple of weeks. In English students have completed sentence and story level writing tasks, showcasing their developing grammatical competence, growing vocabulary, and ability to put their thoughts in to words. We have continued to read The tale of Despereaux and examined the converging storylines of the main characters, as well as our use of inferencing as a strategy and outcome. This text is challenging the students to think about what constitutes a "goodie" and a "baddie", and has also promoted much thoughtful discussion and debate. As one student described it, the text presents us with a "tipsy topsy moral scale". Sophisticated analysis by the class indeed!

In Maths we have been powering through much "fact fluency" work with addition and focused on recognising and describing the strategies used to support understanding and use of addition. Students have been encouraged to recognise that as their mastery increases, the strategies they might use may also change.

Students were very excited this week to receive letters from Mrs Steele and gathered to share and discuss them. A truly joyous moment of literacy!
