CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Francesca in Year 5 who has been selected to play the baritone and be part of Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) Artist Evolution Ensemble. It is a weekly rehearsing ensemble where SCS’s most hardworking and talented players get the opportunity to practice and perform in a high-class ensemble. She is to be commended on her persistence and determination in learning how to play the baritone.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

National Reconciliation Week was celebrated from May 27 to June 3 and it is a time for all Australians to reflect, learn, and work together towards a future where everyone is respected and valued. This week helps us understand the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as well as providing a chance to celebrate our diverse cultures through art, storytelling, and meaningful conversations. Our students participated in meaning learning experiences to highlight the importance of National Reconcilitation Week.

YEAR 6 PARLIAMENT HOUSE EXCURSION

On Monday 2 June, Year 6 students visited the Legislative Assembly and Council houses at NSW Parliament House. They had the opportunity to explore and participate in the process of passing a bill into a law. They even had a special visit from Attorney General, Michael Daley.

YEAR 6 EXCURSION - KOKODA WALKWAY

On Tuesday 27 May, we went to the Kokoda Memorial Trail. The actual trail is in Papua New Guinea. We were told about the different and important locations where battles were fought, and other places that were important for medical facilities and supplies.

These are some facts that we learned on our excursion:

  • The Kokoda Campaign was fought during WWII and was a battle between Australia and Japan.

  • The native Papua New Guinean inhabitants, known as the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels (who were called that because of their hair), carried the injured to where they could get help.

  • The Kokoda Campaign was a huge turning point between the Allies and the Axis powers in the Second World War.

I really enjoyed this experience because it taught us facts about Australia and the role we played in World War II. Our class was split into two separate groups, and my group's tour guide's name was Bob. He had four medals, including one for 25 years of service. This excursion was very fun and educational for our whole class.
