Stepping up to 2025

On Tuesday, 10 December, our students from Foundation to Year 6 next year, spent time with their new teacher and class and had chance to meet their classmates for 2025.

Welcome

We are delighted to welcome our new staff members to Greenvale Primary School for 2025.

Teaching staff – Husna Deveci, Emilia Kotveska, Rebecca Hart (who has had a contract with us prior to going on Family Leave), Lauren Hartnett (who also been a teacher at our school prior) and Tanya Smith.

Farewell

Before the school year ends, you might like to say goodbye to the following staff who are leaving us. We thank them for their commitment to our students at Greenvale PS – Heather Foletta, Sujata Symons, Adriana Iacono, Emma Wilson, Laura Doran and Bay Fikri.

Flying to Foundation and Parents as Partners

Alongside the children attending ‘Flying to Foundation’, a ‘Parents as Partners’ program has been organised for the parents each week. This program has the mantra of ‘Enrolling Your Family and not just your Child’.

At the last session, parents were asked to reflect on their hopes and aspirations and qualities they would like to see for their child’s schooling and for their future.

The session was called “Getting Involved. ’Parents were able to meet other Foundation parents, ask questions and hear information about how they can get involved in their child’s school life. We look forward to working together with all the families of our new Foundation students for 2025.

Year 6 Graduation

I am looking forward to seeing our Year 6 students Graduate next week. This event is a celebration of their time at Greenvale Primary School and a farewell to the next stage of their schooling.

In advance, I would like to say goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 students who have made us so proud. They have been an amazing group and have really demonstrated that “Greenvale Kids are Great Kids”! We wish them all the best for their secondary schooling and hope that they come back and visit us when they can.

Children Left in Hot Cars

As temperatures begin to rise, so too do the dangers of leaving kids alone in cars on hot days.

On hot days, the temperature jumps as soon as the car door closes. Within minutes the temperature in the car can double, which can be extremely dangerous – even fatal – for children left inside. Although it is never the intention to leave children alone for long, many parents do so while making a quick stop at the newsagent, chemist, or corner shop.

A quick stop to pick something up can take much longer than expected. Research shows that one in three parents admit to leaving children alone in the car, with one in five believing it is acceptable for less than five minutes.

Young children are particularly at risk as their body temperature can reach dangerous levels more quickly than expected. A young child’s body temperature rises three to five times faster than an adult’s does, placing them at greater risk of life threatening heatstroke, dehydration and other health risks. When it’s 30 degrees outside, children could be suffering in up to 60 degree heat. When travelling with a child, parents need to make sure they take their child with them.

As this is our last Newsletter for the year, I would like to take the opportunity for our families who celebrate Christmas, to wish them a joyful celebration. Hope all families has a safe and happy holiday break. Look forward to seeing you all back safely in 2025!

Students in Year 1 – Year 6 return to school on Wednesday 29 January, 2025.

Foundation students begin on Wednesday 5 February, 2025. During the first week of school, every Foundation student will, however, have an assessment and interview time with their teacher.
