Visual Arts Report – Heights

It’s been a joy to see the students so excited to begin their Art lessons this week! There’s been a wonderful sense of enthusiasm in the Art room, with both our returning and new students at Springvale Rise eager to dive into their creative projects.

To kick off 2025, we’ve begun exploring Drawing and Collage, with a special focus on the Lunar New Year. All students have been learning how to draw or create a snake, practising various drawing and collage techniques to bring their ideas to life.

Throughout the campus, we’ve been focusing on the elements of line, shape, and pattern within our artwork. Here’s a brief look at what’s been happening at each level:

The SLC students have been using continuous, wavy lines to form their snakes, incorporating different line patterns to add texture and detail to the bodies. A particularly interesting choice has been the shape of the snake’s head, with students experimenting by drawing either round or triangular shapes to make their snakes unique. It’s inspiring to see how the students are approaching these fundamental elements of art with such creativity!

The MLC students have started creating their Springy Snakes, using a fun technique with paper strips for the body and drawing and collage skills for the head. The finished results are looking amazing, and the springy bodies are not only a delight to play with but also make for fantastic displays!

Meanwhile, the JLC students have been learning to draw a snake starting with a simple ‘S-shape.’ They’re adding colourful sticker shapes to decorate the body, and it’s been wonderful to see how each snake has its own unique character. The variety in their designs really highlights the creativity and individuality of each student!

FLC students have also joined in by making a ‘Rocking Snake’ toy using a paper plate. It is their first artwork made at school, so well done everyone!

All activities will continue for another week, so keep an eye out for these creative and colourful snakes popping up around the school—and maybe even peeking out from schoolbags!

Next up in our Art adventure will be Portraits, where we’ll be drawing ourselves and others. I’m so excited to see all the wonderful artworks that will come from this new project! 😊
