Wow. What a year it has been. The memories and amazing times this year I will never forget. I know for a fact that we have made some lifelong friends that we'll never forget. Through all the laughs, craziness, and insanity, I know we have all had a fantastic year and made so many memories. I am ever so grateful for all the teachers, principals, and substitutes for being so supportive, kind, and helpful. We have all had so many leadership opportunities, sports opportunities, theatre opportunities, and so many more.
Jack
Possibly the best part about Year 7 was camp at CYC The Island. Everyone enjoyed the activities and group events that CYC offered to us. Some of the most memorable were disc golf in the rain as everyone tried to rush to finish, competing for who could climb the highest on the mechanical wall, watching a movie with all our friends, and being cautious to go into the cold water at the beach. Camp was awesome, and I could tell everyone thought so too. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the year and has a great time in the years to come.
Elsie
Moving from Year 7 to 8 is a big step; how exciting! Year 7 was a fun way to start the high school journey, from meeting new people to learning what high school is all about. Now that we are in Year 8 next year, we get to do food tech, ceramics, tryouts for EIS, ADP, and we will get to make new friends and meet new people.
Elinor
We are so grateful for the staff and community who have made this Year 7 journey so memorable and fun. I know that we have made so many lifelong friends and have all started our journey of finding ourselves here at LHS, and we wish the very best to the new Year 7s next year. We also wanted to thank everyone for their effort and courage during step up; we know it hasn’t been the easiest moving classes and all, but we are honored to have been your Captains this year and hope that we have left an impact. Cheers to such a fabulous year!!!
Charlie: Thanks for the memories.
Elsie: Thanks for the friends.
Jack: Thanks for the good times.
Elinor: And thanks for such a special year.

Year 8 Captains' Speech

Year 8 was such an exciting year for new opportunities and experiences. This year was jam-packed with all different types of adventures. One of the many highlights of Year 8 was the Adventure Camp Day! This was a fun day, where the Year 8 students went to Mt Evelyn. At the venue, we ate chicken wraps for lunch and ice cream for dessert. Year 8 students got to experience a variety of activities that included a low ropes course, a zipline, rock climbing, archery, candle making, and the reptile house.
Callum
During the fun-filled day, Year 8 students had the opportunity to take part in a low ropes course. Students got to navigate across ropes, trying to cross each section. There were many paths, and some were simple, while others were nearly impossible! One of the most thrilling activities was the zipline. It pushed most of us out of our comfort zones. We had to wear a harness and a helmet. We then walked up a steep hill to connect ourselves to the zipline. We’d then jump off the platform, soar across the oval, and finish with a swing as we hit the end of the line.

We also had rock climbing, with a rock wall about 10 meters in height, featuring two people racing each other to the top for friendly competition. And then there was archery. There were four targets, each spaced roughly a meter apart from each other. Students were also taught how to make candles from scratch. Students would make a multi-colored candle around the thickness of their thumb, which they could take home after the camp.
Axel
The students also got to visit the reptile house there. Year 8 students had the chance to walk around and look at all the different and interesting animals they had. Once students had a look at the reptiles, the Year 8 students sat in a circle while the caregiver taught us about reptiles. They passed around skins of snakes and lizards for the students. Overall, this day was a success. Students really enjoyed taking on these new and challenging activities. It was a great way to connect with other students from the year level.
Sigourney
This year, Year 8 students got to participate in a variety of sports activities. Some of these sports activities included soccer, table tennis, cricket, basketball, and netball. Students got to travel and play their sport against other Year 8 students from other schools. The Year 8 students had a wonderful time exploring and trying new and different sports. Many students made new connections and found a passion.
Callum
The Year 8 students also got to participate in our annual swimming carnival, cross country, and athletics. We had many students go to the Yarra division carnival to compete against other schools. Students got to participate in many different sports such as shot put, 100-meter sprint, javelin, discus, and many other exciting activities. Many students got the opportunity to compete against other schools. The athletics carnival was a very fun and exhilarating day for the Year 8 students, and we look forward to the 2025 athletics carnival.

One final important part of this year has been looking ahead to Year 9 and selecting our elective subjects. First, we were given the opportunity to join an Arts, Sports, or Advanced Learning Program. We could also apply to join a program called Excelling In Sport (EIS), which focuses on a particular sport chosen from netball, basketball, and football. Many students chose to apply for at least one of these programs, and we congratulate those who were successful. Everyone was then able to choose their electives from a list of selections ranging from technology and humanities subjects to the arts and sciences. There were lots of exciting new subjects for us to choose from, and we each selected the two or four we liked most and then listed four more as reserve choices.
Axel
We were also able to select Community Time electives, which are subjects focusing on helping others and improving our community. There were many options to choose from for these subjects, which all sounded fun and interesting, and ranged from making pouches for baby animals to helping run the LHS café. We each picked the two we liked best, plus four more as reserves. This was a really enjoyable process for the Year 8 students, and we now look forward to undertaking all these exciting subjects next year!
Sigourney
Overall, it's been an amazing year. We are all very excited to start Year 9 and be able to make more connections with other students.
Callum
Today marks the end of Year 8 and the Step-up program as we welcome Year 9. Next year we bring on our chosen regular and Community Time electives, which will hopefully be fun for everyone. Thanks to everyone for being here, and we hope you have a wonderful 2025.
