2024 AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

What a Week!

Lilydale High had 18 students from Years 8, 9, and 10 ventured to the Gold Coast on Sunday, December 1, to compete in the 2024 Footlocker Australian School Basketball Championships. The tournament was a week-long event with students playing seven games over the week.

The week started with an Opening Ceremony on the Sunday, where the students got their first feel for the event with a record 216 teams and more than 2000 players in attendance.

Games started on the Monday and concluded on the Friday. The boys' team playing in 17 Division 4, managed 1 win for the week. Most importantly, they all showed great improvement throughout the week. They developed a lot of basketball and life skills that will serve them well.

The girls' team played in 17 Division 2. The team was made up of 4 Year 9s and 4 Year 8s. They played fantastic basketball throughout the week. The girls finished the week with a 4 and 3 record, making it through to crossover finals. Unfortunately, the girls lost their crossover game. They played against a taller and physically stronger team. This loss meant they missed out on the medal rounds.

Away from the basketball, the students had a great week developing new friendships.
