STATE LIBRARY VISIT

Library Warriors and Book Lovers

On Monday, December 9, a group of Library Warriors and Book Lovers went on an excursion into the city. The first stop was Dymocks Melbourne on Collins Street. The group spent an hour at Dymocks browsing, and everyone had the opportunity to choose one book to add to the school library collection. Some students also bought books to add to their own collections. Mr. Ward won the prize for the most books purchased at six books, plus one for the school collection.

We had an early lunch on the grass in front of State Library Victoria before starting our tour. On the tour, we saw different parts of the library and heard some interesting stories, such as that the balconies in the La Trobe Reading Room (The Dome) are not accessible, and if a librarian or staff member needs to get a book, they must be wearing a harness and strapped in. They are essentially rock climbing in the State Library.

There were many jaw-dropping moments for students, but the most jaws dropped as we entered the La Trobe Reading Room.

Students were also given a few tasks throughout the tour, searching for newspapers and call numbers. At the end, the school was gifted a small Lego set of the inside of the library, which now lives on the desk in the Resource Centre. Everyone really enjoyed their visit to Dymocks and State Library Victoria, with many eager to go back over the holidays.

We at the Resource Centre are excited to meet any new Library Warriors and/or Book Lovers next year and are already planning our next excursion.
