Term 4 2024
As we enter the final weeks of Term 4, we reflect back on our last Term of 3-year-old Kinder for the year. We have spent the final term of the year continuing our learning through play. This term we had the drumming incursion– exploring music and movement by using African drums and having the opportunity to listen to and see a range of different instruments that are used indifferent regions of Africa. During the term we continued to learn about our group mascot ‘Ruffs’ the dog’ and his adventures with the group. The mascot invited opportunities for language, listening and communication development.
This term the kindergarten yard area has undergone renovations which has provided intrigue and inspiration for our larger role play areas and small world play spaces. Construction zones in the block corner adding in a range of toys and loose parts, building magnetic towers and construction using marbles with bamboo sticks to create a range of marble runs – discovering through their own learning whether the marbles went fast or slow or stayed on the track. Expanding and exploring our continued interest in STEM, we investigated arrange of ways that we can explore and use water – from melting ice and rescuing the dinosaurs, to pouring and scooping activities. We planted some beans to observe how plants grow and what they need in order to grow.
Based on the children’s curiosity about our bodies, we had as one of our role-play areas a hospital. Many bandages and Dr’s appointments were created through the children’s own experiences and imagination, and there was active engagement by all the children in this play space. Our sensory play brought in elements of the changing season and what we noticed in our garden: lavender, fresh herbs, leaves, scented playdough, digging for dinosaur bones in the coloured salt, the Superworm story explored as sensory play. The new sandpit and mud-pit section has reopened to great delight and enthusiasm.
As our term draws to a close, and we prepare for our finale, the concert, and our farewell. It has been an adventurous, imaginative filled play learning experience year for all children in Boronia group. Their achievements not matter how big or small have resulted in a very big ‘I did it’.
The Boronia Group Educators would like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a very Happy Festive Season and safe and happy travels.
