Have Sum Fun Face-to-Face

In recent weeks our students have eagerly participated in Have Sum Fun Face-to-Face. The Have Sum Fun Competition is an exciting mathematics initiative that uses a quiz-night format. Teams of six students race against the clock to solve four intense rounds of eight challenging problems, plus a tie-breaker round, competing against teams from many other schools.

We entered two Year 7/8 teams, two Year 9/10 teams and three Year 11/12 teams. The teams definitely found it challenging but also a lot of fun. A special mention to one of our senior teams, SNC1, for coming tenth out of forty teams!

Brian L (Year 12)

Have Sum Fun was both a challenging and exhilarating experience for me. Even though it sometimes felt competitive and stressful, it was an enjoyable opportunity to be tested to the limits of my mathematical skills and to be able to share a fun night with my team.

Luke P (Year 12)

Have Sum Fun was quite challenging, but also very fun.  The questions pushed me and the time pressure made it very intense. Overall it was a very fun and enjoyable night.

Ashwa B P (Year 12)

This year was my third and final Have Sum Fun, and it was a truly memorable experience. From the moment I arrived, the strong sense of community and positive energy made everyone feel welcome and excited. This competition challenged me to think differently and trust my problem-solving skills. While we didn’t come first, I’m incredibly proud of my team and how well we worked together under pressure. I’m really grateful to have taken part, and will definitely miss it.

Annabel B and Zinaida R (Year 10)

Have Sum Fun was a thrilling adventure where 12 of us students from St. Norbert got together on a Friday night and tried our very best to solve lots of questions. When we first arrived, it felt intimidating seeing so many schools at the competition. However, the math experience was difficult yet exciting.

Despite wrecking our brains to solve questions, we had lots of fun working as a team, doing our best to represent St Norbert College as best as we could. The evening was filled with snacking, intense thinking and lots of cheering when getting some questions right. Mr Hay and Mrs Angeles were our supporters (especially with the snacks), and I guess we can say that the competition lived up to its name: we really had sum fun!

Even if we didn't come first, it was the friendships we developed and the fun we had that truly stuck with us. So next year, make sure to sign up! It’ll be a great and memorable experience, you won't regret it! Have Sum Fun was an enjoyable, chaotic, and energetic environment. Everybody was quite passionate and enthusiastic when it came to solving the problems, and our team worked well together.

The energy in the venue was charged, with everyone celebrating (very loudly) when they got their answers correct. The questions got progressively harder and more confusing, but we still gave each one our best. It was a lively evening and a great experience. Working with the rest of the team was probably the best part, as we all got along pretty well. It was a night full of math, joy, and snacks!

Mathematics Workshops Term Two

After-school math workshops provide a relaxed and encouraging environment where students can explore math in a way that's not possible during regular school hours. These sessions help students strengthen their skills, boost their confidence, and make learning math more enjoyable. By offering extra support, these workshops give students a great opportunity to succeed in math, both in school and in the future.
