Fyans Park Celebrates Harmony Week

Last week, there were activities each day for students to enjoy acknowledging a special week in the FPPS calendar – Harmony Week. Harmony Week is a celebration that recognises our diversity, bringing together Australians from all different backgrounds.

At Fyans Park, we have a growing diversity, and our student enrolment consists of children from many cultures with over 35 different languages spoke at home. Harmony Week further promotes what it means to be inclusive and strengthens the sense of belonging for everyone.

In addition to our Harmony Week celebrations, our SVT (Student Voice Team) organised an out of uniform with a touch of orange on Thursday 19th March, enjoyed by all students to acknowledge National Close the Gap Day with $375.50 raised for this worthwhile campaign. For more information regarding Close the Gap please visit their website at https://closethegap.org.au/close-the-gap-day/

Colour Blast & Family BBQ - so close to our target!

We are only $1,880 away from our target of $6,000 raised by students and families in readiness for the Colour Blast colour run and Family BBQ next Wednesday night.

A reminder that if you are a late registration, simply come and pay your $5 at the office.

Yesterday, invitations for parents and carers went home because we want everyone to take part this year so be sure to wear your white t-shirt and join in the fun with your students.

EFTPOS will also be available on the night for the BBQ.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Student Excellence

Earlier this week students in Years 3-6 in partnership with students from Chilwell PS, attended a student excellence experience and writing workshop with Author, Jodi Toering - teacher and award-winning author. Please see below a write up of the day from Matilda in 56B.

On the 23rd of March, nine people, including myself, had the incredible opportunity to go to Chilwell Primary School to be part of the PETAA (Primary English Teaching Association Australia) writing program. This included spending a day with award winning author and children's picture book of the year nominee Jodi Toering. It was such an honour to meet a real author and even more exciting to get a glimpse of her secret tips and tricks. We learnt how to become better authors ourselves, especially when by thinking about atmosphere, mood and imagery to enhance our writing. I couldn't be more grateful for everything Jodi taught us. We felt included and accepted by the Chilwell students, teachers and administration staff from the moment we walked in ‘til the moment we walked out, which I myself think is one of the most reassuring things that someone can experience in a new place.

Overall, it was an opportunity like no other and I am so glad I got the opportunity to go.

Safety around our school

School drop off and pick up – Student Safety

In recent weeks, the school has received communications from local members of our community expressing concern regarding traffic and parking around our school, particularly at drop off and pick up times. I have also been in touch with City of Greater Geelong with some suggestions on how the areas around our school could be improved.

In addition, I have been informed that the City of Greater Geelong will be undertaking visits around our school in the coming weeks to observe the conditions of our surrounding streets at peak school times.

I genuinely appreciate the support of all FPPS families in keeping all students safe when arriving and leaving school grounds. Please ensure that if you see me, should you have any concerns.

A reminder that the driveway on Ormskirk St is a No Standing / Parking zone.

School Council Update

Our school's AGM and first official School Council meeting for 2026 was held this week and I presented the Annual Report to School Community for 2025. The staff and I are very pleased with overall parent satisfaction for 2025 (as below) and strive to maintain a high level of communication and engagement with families for the benefit of all students. The Annual Report will be available on our school website, once endorsed by the Department.

All School Council members also undertook the annual Child Safe Standards briefing, an important element in ensuring compliance to the standards and ongoing awareness of our parent community.

Congratulations to our 2026 office bearers for School Council

Respectful, safe, engaged: Shared expectations to support student behaviour

When schools, families and students work together, we achieve the best outcomes. These partnerships are essential to creating school environments that support all students to belong, learn and thrive.

Recently, the Department of Education released shared expectations to support student behaviour. These expectations already closely align to our schools’ expected behaviours.

At Fyans Park all students are expected to be respectful, safe, and engaged. These behaviours help make our school a place where everyone can achieve their best.

How parents and carers can help

As a parent and carer, you play a vital role in helping your child to understand and meet shared behaviour expectations.

By modelling and encouraging positive behaviour, you help your child build the skills and habits they need to be successful at school.

You can see the Respectful, safe, engaged: shared expectations to support student behaviour statement on the Department’s website. This outlines the shared expectations and how you can help.

Further information, resources and support are available at Supporting positive behaviour in Victorian Government schools

School Crossing Safety

In recent weeks, we have noted an increase in students riding their bikes across the road or at the crossing. We have a fabulous crossing supervisor named Chris on Camden Road, whose interest is in keeping our students safe.

If you child rides their bike to school, please remind them to hop off their bike and wheel it safely across the crossing, ensuring they are listening to our crossing supervisor.

A reminder to parents that our morning supervision commences at 8.45am and after school concludes at 3.45pm.

2026 Transition

Despite it being early in the year, we have already received requests for school tours for 2027. With this in mind, the following school tours have been arranged for new families who are residing in our local neighbourhood zone as we continue to be at full capacity with regards to enrolment numbers.

Families can very quickly access the Find My School website to identify their local neighbourhood school at https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/

Our student leaders will be assisting me in facilitating school tours this year and welcoming new families and students to our school.

Our School Tour dates for Term 1 and 2 are listed below

I welcome new families from all year levels to attend

Tuesday 31st March at 9.15am

Tuesday 21st April at 9.15am

The holidays are fast approaching, and this is our final newsletter for the Term 1. I wish all families a safe and happy holiday period.
