St Patrick’s Day Mass

On Tuesday 17 March Maroun A, Matteo S, Aten N, and Liam D , along with Mr Menezes, attended the St Patrick’s Feast Day Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral. It was celebrated by Archbishop Anthony Fisher, and Bishops Danny, David and Antoine-Charbel.

The mass was very reverent and included a lot of hymns attributed to St Patrick. Archbishop Fisher’s homily was centred on his own experience and faith like St Patrick. Maroun represented our College by reading a Prayer of the Faithful with other students from Catholic schools in Sydney, and at the completion of Mass, we were able to meet the Archbishop for a photo on the steps of the Cathedral. It was a great feast day and cause for celebration for many Catholics in Sydney and around the world who ask for St Patrick’s intercession.

St Patrick, Pray for Us.

Gift from the Class of 2024

Last Friday several members of the Class of 2024 returned to the College to witness the unveiling and blessing of their graduation gift to the College, a statue of St Joseph which sits in the Senior Yard overlooking Breen Oval. They chose this gift for the saint who means a lot to them and who is a model to all of us, as the earthly father of Jesus.

After Mass in the Chapel, Bishop Danny Meagher blessed the statue, Dr Lavorato said a few words and those gathered remained for morning tea and conversation. We thank Bishop Danny for his presence and the College Captain of the Class of 2024, Michael Sakr, for his organisation of the gift, along with his cohort and their parents for their thought and contribution. We also thank our maintenance staff, Mr Chris Hughes and Mr Richard Cramb for their work with engineers and workers to ensure the safe installation of the statue, which reminds all of us of our commitment to faith and work.

Don’t Forget

  • The SPC Lenten Appeal Mufti Day is next Monday, 30 March. Students who wear mufti need $5 in cash on the day. (NO open shoes including crocs, no singlets, no clothing with offensive/inappropriate slogans and the like.)

  • Earth Hour is on Saturday night from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Turn off the power to help save the world. This will happen at school on Friday.

  • Student Spiritual Life Surveys need to be completed by Friday this week. To be done in Homeroom.

  • Students need to keep on looking for opportunities to serve their communities, engaging authentically in SOL Service or Social Justice Service (and also just being a good citizen).
