Secondary Students:
Learning Outside the Classroom
In Week 3, a group of Secondary students attended camp at Blackwood. For many of them, it was their first time spending a night away from home. Throughout the camp, students participated in a range of exciting activities, including low ropes, archery and a fossil dig. It was wonderful to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, trying new experiences and building their confidence.
This week, students who did not attend the overnight camp were invited to participate in a day camp at Clifford Park. During our time at Clifford Park, we went for a walk, saw a kangaroo, cooked sausages and even roasted marshmallows. This gave them the opportunity to experience many of the enjoyable aspects of camp while continuing to build the skills and confidence needed to attend an overnight camp in the future.
The opportunity for students to continue their learning beyond the classroom is both valuable and rewarding. School camps provide rich opportunities for students to develop essential life skills such as communication, resilience, independence and teamwork. They also allow students to apply their literacy and numeracy skills in meaningful, real-world contexts. These experiences foster social and emotional growth, build confidence, strengthen relationships with peers, and create lasting memories that extend well beyond the camp itself.
