Principal's Message

Dear Applecross SHS Families,

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope the holiday break gave your family valuable time to rest, recharge, and enjoy moments together.

As we commence the term, we look forward to supporting our students as they continue to strive for their personal best while demonstrating mutual respect and care for one another. Term 2 is traditionally a busy and productive period, offering a wide range of learning opportunities designed to promote academic achievement alongside social and emotional growth. During the term, students will also engage in both formative and summative assessments as we progress towards Semester 1 reporting timelines.

Thank you to the many families who attended our Parent Teacher Day on Thursday, 23 April and took the time to engage in meaningful conversations with their child’s teachers. A student’s learning journey is most effective when supported by a strong partnership between home and school. Open and ongoing communication plays an essential role in supporting both student progress and wellbeing.

On Friday, 24 April, our school community came together for the ANZAC Assembly, providing a meaningful opportunity to reflect and honour those who have served, and continue to serve, our country. ANZAC Day holds a deep significance in Australia’s history and is also personally meaningful to me, both as a school leader and as an individual. The enduring values of courage, resilience, and mateship remain powerfully relevant, particularly during times of challenge and uncertainty.

Throughout my life, reflecting on the experiences of the ANZACs has provided perspective and a renewed sense of purpose. I have had the privilege of visiting significant World War I and World War II sites to deepen my understanding and show respect to those who served. One particularly impactful experience was trekking the Kokoda Track over ten days, navigating intense humidity and challenging terrain where determination and perseverance were required every step of the way. Experiences such as these reinforce the importance of resilience, teamwork, and maintaining focus in difficult circumstances—qualities that remain vitally important in our everyday lives and within our school community.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a rewarding and successful term ahead.

Warm regards,

Karena
