Celebrating the International Day of La Francophonie at KSC!
On Friday, March 20, staff and students came together to celebrate the International Day of La Francophonie, a day that recognises the status of French as a global language spoken by over 300 million people and its role in bringing people of different cultural backgrounds together.
At recess and lunchtime, the French team and the Language Captains ran a range of activities for students to enjoy, including a special screening of a Miraculous: Ladybug and Cat Noir episode, a French photo booth with costumes and props, a crêpe stand that sold out in record time, and a Kahoot quiz that tested students’ knowledge of the French-speaking world. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and excitement of so many people getting involved and embracing the spirit of the day.
This day wouldn’t have been possible without our Language Captains, Kian and Steph, who not only spent their recess and lunchtime running these activities, but also led Year 8 and 9 French students through a range of French language and culture games throughout the day. In addition to our Language Captains, I’d also like to extend un grand merci to the following people:
Isabel, our French language assistant, who not only designed and set up our photo booth but also made over 60 crêpes for students to enjoy!
Our Year 7 helpers, Georgia, Liv and Molly, who did an outstanding job serving crêpes at lunchtime.
Mr Watts, Mr Keegan and Mr Henson, for the support they provided in the lead-up to, and on, the day.
Finally, thank you to everyone who celebrated with us! We are already looking forward to next year’s festivities.
French Film Festival Excursion
On the last Thursday of Term 1, thirty of our Senior French students attended a screening of Le Secret de Kheops at the Kino Cinema. The film followed the journey of an eccentric French Egyptologist’s who reunites with his estranged daughter and grandson to find King Khufu’s lost treasure underneath the city of Paris. While the film was incredibly entertaining and showcased some of the best of French it also touched on themes pertaining to more complex and challenging family dynamics that our students had explored in class throughout the term.
Afterwards, everyone had the chance to enjoy a crêpe at Awa French Crêperie and Café or a waffle at Waffle On, as well as take some time to discuss their thoughts on the film and work through their post-viewing booklets in the sunshine.
Overall, it was a fantastic day and a lovely way to celebrate the end of Term 1. I’d like to thank Mr Watts and Isabel, our French Language Assistant, for their support and supervision, as well as to our fabulous students for the respect they demonstrated towards themselves and others throughout the excursion.
