Year 9 Media

Year 9 Media students are currently filming their planned Short Film productions. Some groups have chosen to produce a Music Video and others chose to produce an action film. Having created shot lists/storyboards during the planning process, students are currently in Production mode before switching to Post-Production, during which they will edit the final product. This is the first assessed practical task in Year 9 Media following earlier Learning Tasks and a written Film Analysis Assessment Task. Students are learning to use filming and editing equipment as well as developing creative collaboration skills.

Year 10 Photography

On Friday 1 May, the Year 10 Photography students had the exciting opportunity to visit the city and attend the Women in Photography exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). This excursion gave us a chance to explore a wide range of photographic works from a diverse range of female photographers.

For many of us, visiting a major gallery like the NGV was a new experience, and it immediately set the tone for a day of creativity and exploration. Upon arrival, we were introduced to the exhibition, which showcased a wide variety of photographic styles, themes, and techniques. Many of the photographs explored themes such as gender, identity, family, and the environment. This helped us see how photography can go beyond simply capturing an image but communicate ideas, emotions, and perspectives too.

Another key takeaway from the excursion was the use of different techniques and approaches. Some photographers used traditional black and white film, while others experimented with colour and lighting. We also observed how composition played a crucial role in each photograph. Elements such as framing, perspective, and subject placement were carefully considered to guide the viewer’s attention and enhance the work. Throughout the visit, we documented the pieces that stood out to us the most, and what we could try and recreate back at school.

After exploring the exhibition, we had time to explore Melbourne City and document everyday city life. Overall, the excursion to the NGV was an incredibly valuable experience for the Year 10 Photography class. It not only provided inspiration for our current and future projects but also challenged us to think more deeply about the purpose and impact of photography.

A huge thank you to Miss Humphris and Mr Henson for organising this opportunity and guiding us throughout the day.

Year 10 3D Art

Year 10 3D Art students have been exploring the concept of appropriation, creating original artworks that transform and reimagine existing ideas, objects and images. Through hands-on making and creative experimentation, students developed thoughtful sculptural works that demonstrate understanding of various materials and their application in contemporary art practices.

Keep an eye out for these exciting artworks at Koonung’s forthcoming Visual Arts showcase!
