Miss Burgess
It’s been a pleasure filling in for Darlene this past week whilst she has been on some long service leave. As always, we look forward to her return next week, but have thoroughly enjoyed the week we have had.
On Monday, we had around 48 students representing Fyans Park at Geelong Racecourse for District Cross Country. Tuesday was Japanese Day and Wednesday saw the start to our Maths Explorer (Year 3/4) and Maths Olympiad (31 Year 5/6s). Coming up next week we have Families’ Week, Lightning Premiership, and our specialist Families’ Week Breakfast followed by Open Classrooms to round off the week. Our Year 3-6 Athletics at Landy Field is then on the horizon, Monday 18th May.
With all these special offerings, our teachers continue to ensure classroom programs are operating at high level and meeting the needs of all students.
Outside of school I continue to be amazed by the high level of success of our students. At the end of last term, the Fyans Park Jets Basketball team represented the school incredibly well, winning the Grand Final against Montpellier 39 - 26. From all reports, they showed such great encouragement towards each other and are a great little team. They are very lucky to have Mel Elevato coaching them and developing their skills after school each week. At Kardinia Park, I have lost count of the number of Fyans Park teams we have playing netball on Monday and Wednesdays after school. Many train before school and their skills are improving every week. Footy and soccer are back in full swing on weekends and I have heard from a number of families that we may soon see some familiar faces on ABC’s Little Lunch.
Whether it’s sport, acting, music or languages, the students at Fyans Park are incredibly diverse in their skills and interests both in and outside of school
Cross Country - From Ms Van Ooi
On Monday, the 4th of May - 48 Year 3-6 Fyans Park Students travelled to the Geelong Racing Club to take part in the Aberdeen District Cross Country.
It was a great day out, with everyone giving it their best and completing the course.
A special congratulations to Claire L and River J who came first in their age groups. The following students will be progressing to the Division Cross Country on Tuesday the 19th of May at the Geelong Racecourse - Claire L, River J, Iris F, Frankie B, Luna T, Harriet S, Maddie C, Beatrix W, Anneke R, Liam M, Franklin K, Archer H, Senuk G, Ned F, Olive O, Maddie C and Billy N. Parents are required to take their students to Division level. Please keep an eye out on Compass for more information.
Families’ Week
We look forward to hosting families on the morning of the 15th of May from 8.15am for our National Families Week Breakfast, with this year’s theme – Every family, everywhere.
National Families Week recognises the vital role families play in our lives and our community. It’s a time to celebrate with your family, connect with your extended family and friends and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. Families Week is all about events that bring people together. Our F&F Association will be assisting with breakfast items, and we plan to have a range of mindful activities on the green surface for students.
From 8.45am, teachers will open their classrooms and families are most welcome to spend the first 15-20 minutes in classrooms with students. I am hopeful we have many families come along for the morning to celebrate National Families Week.
Bullying Prevention
At our School Council meeting this week we consulted on our updated Bullying Prevention Policy. Whilst there weren’t many changes to the policy itself we have added our Bullying Prevention resources as appendices;

The new policy will be updated on our school website shortly.
2026 Transition
Over the past few weeks we have held a number of school tours for prospective 2027 families. We had just under forty parents/carers in attendance at our Prep Information session for Foundation students, held last week. We anticipate our 2027 Foundation numbers will be between 55 and 60 at this early stage, which is terrific, with some lovely new families enrolling to begin their journey at FPPS.
Our school leaders have been incredible advocates for our school as they support us in facilitating school tours - we have one more scheduled for this year.
