Duke of Edinburgh Camp

Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Practice Journey – Great Ocean Road
Week 9 saw the Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh class embark on their practice journey along the Great Ocean Road. Students were up bright and early at 6:00am, with packs ready and spirits high for Day 1.
The first day delivered perfect hiking conditions, with sunshine overhead, snakes spotted basking along the track, and group morale at an all-time high. The 12km walk proved challenging, but through strong teamwork and support, all students successfully made their way into camp. A fun tradition was introduced this year, with the group purchasing an “Ugly Jumper” for a deserving teammate. With jumpers proudly worn, the evening was spent cooking dinner while surrounded by local wildlife, including koalas and possums.
Day 2 brought a change in conditions, testing students’ resilience and determination. High winds, muddy tracks, heavy rain, leeches, and beach walking sections created a series of challenges. Despite this, both groups remained focused on their goal, encouraging and supporting one another to successfully complete the journey. Throughout the hike, students experienced stunning coastal views, enjoyed group activities such as camouflage games, and demonstrated excellent independence through meal preparation.
Overall, it was a rewarding and memorable experience for all involved.
Congratulations to all students who completed the camp.
A special thank you to Ruben and Mr Bourke for their support and guidance throughout the journey.
