A Message from Keir and Emma

“We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the first people to dream, create, wonder, dance, play and learn on this breathtaking land. This land was cared for and respected for tens of thousands of years. The First Nations people lived in companionship with the animals and the life on this land. We acknowledge that this is stolen land and we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.”

Rayma Atkinson (2023 Suzanne Peterson Award Recipient)

Welcome back everyone!

Student Free Day

Yesterday, the staff worked together to unpack the BNWPS pedagogical frameworks and instructional models. This aligns with the 2026 focus we have through our Annual Implementation Plan We will be sharing these frameworks and models with the community in future newsletters, Education Sub-Committee meetings and community forums.

What is a pedagogical framework?

A pedagogical framework serves as a blueprint for educators to design, implement, and evaluate learning experiences. It combines the science, philosophy, and craft  of teaching, providing guidance on how learners construct knowledge, collaborate, and develop skills in both individual and collective contexts.

Pedagogical frameworks outline why we teach the way we teach.

What is an Instructional model?

An instructional model provides educators with guidance on how to plan and deliver lessons that align with curriculum standards and learning goals, ensuring students acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding at each grade level. It serves as a common approach and vocabulary for teachers, facilitating professional collaboration, coaching, and consistent instructional practices across classrooms.

Instructional models outline how we will teach.

Congratulations Emma!

We are very happy to be able to announce that Emma is no longer our acting Assistant Principal - she is our real Assistant Principal now! As you all know, Emma brings a calm and considered experience to the school as well as a very strong knowledge and background in Literacy, Disability Inclusion and Intervention leadership. We are very pleased that Emma was willing to apply for the substantive role, and very very happy when she accepted the offer of the job. Make sure you congratulate Emma if you see her around the school this week!

Classroom Helpers Workshop

In term two, we begin our classroom helpers program. We invite parents, carers and family members to volunteer in our classrooms and other areas of the school. Often, classroom helpers will support teachers with their Reading, Writing and Maths programs. We also love it when we have ‘parent experts’ present to our students. If you are interested in participating in our classroom helpers program, we encourage you to attend the information session next Monday 27th April, at 10:00am. Anyone attending the session will need to sign in at the office first. If you would like further information, please contact Emma at emma.mallia@education.vic.gov.au.

Middles - MTA

As many of you know, Tim Plummer (the main teacher in MTA) is off on a caravan adventure from next week and will not be returning to BNWPS until 2027. We are very happy to announce that Jamie Marcetic will be replacing Tim for the rest of the year.

Jamie is already working in MTA on a Wednesday and will now be the full-time class teacher for this class. Jamie has been a member of the BNWPS community for a while now; as an OSHC staff member, as an ES and as a long and short term CRT covering many classes and programs across the last few years. We are very excited to have Jamie now as a member of our full-time teaching staff. Please say a big "Hello!" to Jamie if you see him in the yard.
