SCS EISTEDDFOD 

Congratulations to Angelique in Year 3 who was awarded First Place in the Category Grade 3 Piano at the Sydney Catholic Schools Eisteddfod.

During the holidays on the 8 April, I went to a Piano Eisteddfod and I was really excited because I was awarded First Place in my category against 7 other students. The Eisteddfod started at 9:25am and I played A Little Joke by Dmitry Kabalevsky.

It was a fun and great experience because it helped me feel less nervous about performing in front of a large audience.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

On Thursday 23 April, Mayor Dylan Parker visited Stage 3. He talked to us about public speaking and shared stories about times he had to speak in front of huge crowds. He told us that everyone gets nervous, even adults, which made us feel better. He gave us some great advice about public speaking and we learnt how important Structure, Substance and Style are when writing a speech. His visit was very informative and all of Stage 3 walked away with some great tips to use in their own public speaking presentations.

Kildare Kids – St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School Choir

Our choir has a new name! When entering our choir into the Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) Eisteddfod, we were asked to choose a name that was not our school name. 

St Brigid of Kildare is a patron saint of Ireland and our school. St Brigid founded the Brigidine Sisters with the first monastery at Kildare, in Ireland in about 480. The Brigidine Sisters founded our school, St Aidan’s in March, 1915. The Brigidine Sisters have a rich history of teaching music in their schools, so Kildare Kids is a great name for our choir. You may have noticed that next door, the property where once the Brigidine Convent of Maroubra stood, is now called Kildare Court. The Brigidine Sisters still residing in Kildare Court have amongst them very accomplished musicians who love to follow news of our school choir but are thrilled to hear our choir’s new name!

Kildare Kids Choir meet on Wednesday mornings 7.45 – 8.45. We have 36 members and are currently practicing for ANZAC DAY Dawn Service, Mothers’ Day and the SCS Eisteddfod. We do some songs just for fun and we are very ambitiously learning two songs with 3-part harmony. It is important for Choir members to practice at home. Students can do so through Kildare Kids Choir Google Classroom, which has slides with music and lyrics. Which they join and access with their school email.
