Student Achievement: Yash Named Short Story Competition Winner

We are thrilled to celebrate the wonderful achievement of Yash Mihir Patel, who has been named the 2026 Youth Winner in the Sheila Malady Short Story Competition for his story, The Hunt for the Aurora Vine.

This prestigious competition, promoted by the State Library of Victoria, is open to students under 18 across the state, making Yash’s success an incredible feat. What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Yash took this on as a personal project during his summer holidays. He drew inspiration from his classroom learning, including character descriptions from class exercises and themes explored in his recent book studies, to craft his winning piece.

We are incredibly proud of Yash’s initiative, growth, and dedication to his writing. Congratulations on this outstanding success, Yash!
