Hello from our students and teachers
Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
Grade 5/6 K have had a wonderful start to 2025! We have been getting to know each other, building our classroom routines and creating some wonderful learning pieces.
Recently we have been developing our understanding of descriptive reading and writing strategies, focusing on 'show don't tell' and how authors use the 5 senses to build imagery and allow the reader to be immersed in the writing.
We have been reading 'Crumbs', by Phill Cummins and Shane Devries, where students have explored which senses the author uses and how this helps us make inferences about characters, emotions and develop and deeper understanding of the text.
Students went on nature walk around the school and checked into their own senses. They listened, watched, smelt and felt. Students then wrote their own descriptive pieces applying 'show don't tell' and the 5 senses - Titled: Violet Street Primary School.
Students have also been working on their passion projects this term where they have researched a topic of interest and created a presentation. Students have used a range of different technology including PowerPoint, Canva and Minecraft Education.
Zeke - Zeke has created an operating system that is designed to making work and calculating easier. He coded the operating system called FrostOS.
This week we have had Finn and Atticus both share some interesting things in our classroom. Finn brought in his Venus Fly Trap plants to show the class and shared some interesting information with us. Did you know ... Venus fly traps can re-open their traps 5-10 days after they digest an insect. Atticus brought their 303 riffle bullet to share with the class. This was from their Grandfather who is a collector. This type of bullet was used in the World Wars and showed a piece of history for us to see.
