Principals Report
Today is World Teachers’ Day. A day for us to thank and celebrate the teaching profession. It is my privilege to spend time with all GIHS staff, students and their families during Term 4 2024. My substantive role is Principal at Guyra Central School. I have been in this role for the past 7 years. Prior to this I was Principal at Norfolk Island Central School (5 years) and Wilcannia Central School (4 years) I was asked to step into the role of relieving principal at Glen Innes High School during Term 4 2024 while your principal, Adam Forrester is undertaking alternate duties.
During week 3 and week 4 I am hoping to have meetings with the student leadership teams to explore what they want for Glen Innes High school. Next week I will be attending the AGM of the local AECG and I have already had meetings with P &C executive.
It is important that we get a clear view of what the school community would like to see happening in the school. How would we like to see resources allocated?
We would like to invite the whole community to a Community Engagement Event. This event would see the whole GIHS staff sitting around the table with student representatives and the Glen Innes community, an opportunity to brainstorm and identify what we need to celebrate and what could be considered roadblocks to our success. Our Director of Public Schools, Christopher Bice, will attend this event. We are looking at dates in Week 6 and are looking towards an afternoon barbeque to kick off the event. The barbeque should also provide opportunity for staff and community to have an informal chat. Our school executive will be meeting on Tuesday afternoon, 29th October 2024, to discuss details and dates and we will get an invitation out to the community before the end of next week.
Please take the opportunity to come and meet with me to discuss your ideas and points of view prior to week 6.
Thank you
Michelle Nicholson
