Yarning Circle Space!!
Most exciting news! Recently, we had Chris from Entire Excavations come out during the holidays and place rocks in our Yarning Circle space. As well as this, Hands-on Learning students have put the Yarning Circle and Bush Tucker Garden sign on the brick walls within the space. Miss Moschetti designed and then had it printed through Sam at Gecko Signs in Lilydale.
Lilydale Heights College would like to thank both businesses for making our Yarning Circle space a warm and inviting one where First Nation students can talk, share, and yarn together. This space also invites all students from any subject to respectively learn, while enhancing all students' understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
Koorie student perspective - Ella B
As a Koorie student, this year has been a journey of growth and connection. I’ve deepened my understanding of my culture, participating in events that celebrate and honour our traditions. These experiences have strengthened my identity and pride in my heritage. Academically, I've faced challenges, but they’ve pushed me to develop resilience and determination. Engaging with my community has been a highlight, where I’ve found support and inspiration from peers and elders alike. Overall, this year has been a meaningful blend of learning, self-discovery and cultural empowerment.
