SECONDARY NEWS

From the Assistant Principal

Miss Kim Bailey

kbailey@arm.catholic.edu.au

The Secondary is relatively quiet for most of this week as many students are involved in out of school activities.

This Friday is a Pupil Free Day, as is the first day of Term 4. School resumes for all students on Tuesday 15 October.

Work Experience

Some Year 10 students are completing their first Work Experience session for 2024. Most of the students are placed locally, and we thank the business community for their support in providing work placements.

Excursions

Year 9 and Year 8 students are on excursions in Sydney and The Great Aussie Bush Camp at Lake Macquarie, respectively.

Year 7 HSIE Excursion - Historical Walk, Inverell CBD.

In HSIE, a site study is integrated into the curriculum requirements. It is a means through which students acquire knowledge, skills, values and attitudes from experience in the field. Site studies enable students to understand their environment and participate actively in HSIE inquiry. The enjoyable experience of active engagement in the past helps to create and nurture a lifelong interest in HSIE.

The Year 7 HSIE excursion took place yesterday. This year, we went to the Inverell CBD. Engaging in a historical walk around the Inverell CBD assisted students in developing knowledge and skills to enhance their understanding of the Stage 4 HSIE Syllabus.

Year 6 to 7 Transition

Today, Year 6 students had a day in the Secondary. They had their lessons in secondary classrooms, with a mix of regular lessons and some specialist classes.

We provided experiences in PDHPE, Science, Mandatory Technology (a visit to the Ag Plot) and Geography. We also welcomed new students who will join us in 2025. The transition process will continue next term.

Congratulations...

RSPCA Fundraisers

Year 8 - led by Jelena Durmisevic & Sophie Neppl

Year 8 baked goods for a cake stall last Tuesday for the RSPCA. Jelena and Sophie led the initiative. The cake stall was well supported by Secondary students, and $537 was raised.

Jelena and Sophie were given certificates of appreciation by Mrs Allison Lane, Treasurer of the local branch. Year 8 also received a certificate for their efforts.

Inverell Breakfast Toastmasters Youth Communicator of the Year

Congratulations to Hannah Bourke, Jessica Hill, Maryann Otieno, and Elkie Sargeant, Holy Trinity's Youth Communicator of the Year 2024 nominees.

Year 10 Term 3 Calendar and Assessment Outline

Year 10 were given a calendar and assessment outline for Term 3. It is a busy term, and this may help their time management and planning. They were given a hard copy, and an electronic copy was emailed. The schedule was also posted to Compass for both Year 10 students and families.

Device Policy

Students are not permitted to use their devices unless instructed by a teacher. This includes both the classroom and the playground. The students are aware of this policy and receive constant reminders in Pastoral Care and their teaching classes. There are also many posters displayed all around the school.

If a student needs to use their device, they must first seek permission from a teacher and use it in an area designated by the teacher. This is usually under their direct supervision or outside the Secondary staffroom.

If students cannot follow this policy, their phones are confiscated and placed securely in Miss Bailey's office, where they are collected by the student at the end of the school day.

Teachers record each time a device is confiscated. After it is confiscated for a second time, it remains at school until it can be collected by a parent or carer.
