Care for ill students
Students who are unwell should not attend school.
If a student becomes unwell during the school day they may be directed to the Health Centre and monitored by staff. Depending on the nature of their symptoms, staff may contact parents/carers or an emergency contact person to ask them to collect the student. Students are NOT to contact their family directly. They must attend the Health Centre and our Health Centre Attendant will make contact if deemed necessary.
Our school follows the Department’s policy and guidance in relation to our Health Centre to ensure it is safe, hygienic and appropriately equipped: First aid rooms and sick bays.
Accidents or Illness
All families are encouraged to maintain a current Ambulance Subscription. It is essential that the information on the Enrolment Form about home and work phone numbers and other emergency numbers is kept up to date. Every effort will be made to contact parents/carers if students are injured or becomes ill.
Please notify the College General Office in writing of any allergies, health conditions or physical disabilities which may affect either the student's activities at the College or the treatment given in an emergency.
Students should report immediately to their classroom teacher or the General Office if an accident or illness occurs.
Medication
If a student requires medication, NSC encourages parents to arrange for the medication to be taken outside of school hours. However, NSC understands that students may need to take medication at school or during school activities.
Any medication brought to school by a student must be in its original packaging and clearly labelled with the student’s name, the required dosage, and the time it needs to be administered. Parents or carers must ensure the medication is within its expiry date. If expired medication is found, school staff will contact the parents or carers to provide updated medication. For students requiring medication to be administered at school, the 'Medical Authority Form' must be completed, signed and returned to the General Office.
NB: All students at NSC who have been diagnosed by a medical practitioner as having anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes or epilepsy must have the relevant Individual Management Plan along with the required medication to be stored in the Health Centre in the event of an emergency e.g. autoinjector pens for Anaphylaxis.
