Late Submission of Work

Expectations of Students
At Norwood Secondary College, homework and assessment is essential to our teaching and learning programs. The purpose of the Late Submission of Work Policy is to outline the process for submitting work and to establish consistent protocols. This policy applies to students in all year levels and to staff responsible for assessing student work.
Organisation and Guidelines for Completing and Submitting Work
- It is the responsibility of the student to submit all homework and assessment tasks by the due date. Students are encouraged to refer to Compass to keep track of all Learning Tasks to ensure they meet the relevant deadlines.
- Teachers will communicate deadlines to students and parents via Compass Learning Tasks.
- All work must be submitted to the classroom teacher. In the event that a teacher is absent, the work may be given to the replacement teacher. Students can submit work to teachers at their relevant staffrooms during recess and lunchtimes.
Applying for an Extension
If you require an extension, you must provide your classroom teacher with an explanation at least 24 hours before the submission deadline. If you are absent on the day the work is due, then the task must be submitted as soon as you return. It is your responsibility to seek out your teacher if a class is not scheduled on the day that you return. An extension will only be granted in the case of illness, school approved absences and exceptional circumstances. Work, sporting and other commitments both inside and outside of school are not sufficient reasons for extension.
Missing Deadlines and the Consequences of Late Submission
For work submitted after the due date, you will incur a penalty of 10% for each school day that the work is late. If you submit the work after 5 days, you are still eligible to receive an ‘S’ for the task.
- Parents/Carers will be advised of late work via the Learning Task set date on Compass. Late work will be followed up with a Letter of Concern and you will be entered into a mandatory Redemption Session which will run each Wednesday from 3.00pm-4.00pm for students in Years 7-10. This session will be supervised by Year level leaders with the support of our Classroom Teachers and Tutors. *You may also attend Homework Club which runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays (3.10pm – 4.15pm) to seek additional support.
- If you fail to meet deadlines/submit work on a regular basis across multiple subjects, parents/carers will be called to the school for a meeting with the Year Level Coordinator and/or Head of Year Level and further action may be taken.
