A message from School Council

School council meetings this week…

This week we had our subcommittee meeting in preparation for our next school council meeting in two weeks’ time.  This is a quick summary of the main discussion topics…

Finance- the usual validation of monthly transactions and an update and discussion about the recent communications about families getting the financial support of $400 per child next year from the government.  We discussed the new admin process that will be required in the office to manage this and the potential impact these funds might have in helping us increase our parent contributions from this year.  Also, there were discussions if it can be used for our disadvantaged families if people chose to donate it.  This is under investigation.

Environments – there was a comprehensive update of our major landscaping project and the positive progressions that are being made meaning we are going to tender in the coming weeks and still on track to start Dec24/Jan25. There is a potential issue raised that the play equipment that has been chosen by the JSC may not be available until early March and what impact that will have.

Also, we began initial planning of our final working bee of this year (Sat 30th Nov @ 11am-2pm) what we will do and how we can get more engagement.

Community – we had a debrief from the recent Trivia fundraiser and heard that it was a brilliant night, enjoyed by all and successfully raised just over $3000! Thank you to those that joined us and contributed!

We are looking to change it to a weekend night next year and open it up to our prep parents that have kids joining NPS the following year.  These are ideas for continue improvement and increase fundraising amount.  We confirmed the final details of our current mango drive and tea towel fundraisers and continued to lock in plans for the end of year picnic and art show coming up in the evening of Monday 2nd Dec24.

If you would like to know more about any of our subcommittees and how to be a part of them then please reach out to the office and they will pass your details onto the current school council to be in touch. The more hands the lighter the work!

Meet another member…

Hi, my name is Stephen Moore, and I’m the proud father of Sienna in Grade 3. This year marks my third year serving on the school council, making me the longest-standing parent councilor.

I joined the council because I firmly believe that strong parent participation is crucial to the success of our school and the quality of education our children receive. I encourage other parents to consider joining the school council or its subcommittees, as your involvement can make a significant difference. By joining the council, you have the opportunity to voice your opinions, contribute to important decisions, and help shape the future of our school. Being part of the council also allows you to stay informed about school policies and initiatives, ensuring that our children’s best interests are at the forefront of all decisions.I’m also a member of the Environments subcommittee, so if you can’t commit to the council, please participate in our working bees! This is another fantastic way to support our school community. These events not only help maintain and improve our school facilities but also foster a sense of camaraderie among parents, teachers, and students. Your presence and effort, no matter how small, can have a lasting impact on our school environment and our children’s educational experience.
