Netball

On Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th March the Year 9, 10 , 11 & 12 SSP Netball Player Athletes attended a two day camp at Camp Wilkin in Anglesea. This was the first camp for the netball program and was a fantastic experience for all involved. Players were challenged both mentally and physically and participated in activities such as a High Ropes Course and Raft Building Challenge, Team Initiative games, a personality quiz to gain greater self-awareness and some light-hearted fun with a Shark Tank style activity. There was a campfire at night and after a good sleep the athletes were challenged with a hill running session the next morning. We were lucky enough to have an Olympian in Ellie Pashley (marathon runner) as a guest speaker who shared her wisdom and advice on what it takes to be an Olympic athlete and the sacrifices and challenges that go with being an athlete at that level. We finished the camp with lunch on the beach at Torquay and a recovery walk in the water. It was so pleasing to see special connections being made, players responding and thriving in different situations, special moments and memories created and so many laughs. There was so much learning and self/team development that took place over the two days without even being on a netball court. Well done to all who participated and immersed themselves fully in the experience.

AFL

The AFL  program has enjoyed a great fortnight on the track.  Our focus has been ‘next play’ and setting up the ground when the ball leaves the area.  We are starting to see some good runners coming through, session have been tough but they are embracing the work.  We are preparing the players for their upcoming seasons, all will see improvements once they commence playing.  We are introducing, step by step, our school football style of play for games that begin in term 2.

On Wednesday our year 9 girls and boys played a friendly against North Geelong SC year 9 and 10’s.  It was great to see our new students compete in the blue and orange.

Soccer

So much happening in the Soccer Space, with the aim of taking the girls and boys U/15 outside of the shores of Australia. Using soccer at the centre for travel, we aim to take the kids overseas where they can experience different cultures, different styles of play and experience different environments while focusing on their craft.

We are just finishing off confirming our Girls to compete in an International tournament where they would be competing in an Oceania Tournament in Fiji. This is super exciting for the Soccer program as it would give our girls the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best players in Oceania and provide the girls with a phenomenal cultural experience.

The Soccer Program is also excited to announce our Boys will also be travelling to an overseas experience in 2025. This experience is still in the infancy, but the idea would be to take on some of the world’s best academy teams. The trip would take place in the September period of 2025 with the prospective countries being Holland, Germany and Belgium.

The energy and excitement in the program is truly amazing and I’m sure the kids are all having a ball !
