YEAR 10-12 NEWS

Term 1

Year 10

Last Friday 1/3 year 10 students where involved in a wellbeing day.

The boys took part in the Mancave program – where they had many deep and meaningful conversations and shared stories among their peers

Meanwhile the girls took part in a Nurture program – where they had sessions of mindfulness, self-defence and even Zumba!

Both the boys and girls of year 10 got a lot out of the day 😊

On Tuesday 5/3 the year 10 cohort and the whole school took part in the WHC athletics carnival. It was wonderful to see so many of our year 10s take part in this amazing day.

Just a reminder to parents that the consent of the Victorian Careers & Employment Expo is due ASAP. Next Friday 15/3 all year 10s are traveling to the Melbourne showgrounds to attend this amazing expo.

Student reflections:

Our definition of success was working together even if it doesn’t go to plan.- Krystal Hatton

The three steps we took to creating a good idea were ask questions, write your ideas down and think associatively.- Eliana Harvey

A key word to sum up the challenge was "Involvement because we were all involved." - Kayden McMahon

Year 12

Congratulations to the students who attended and competed in their final school Athletics day. The attitude, sportsmanship and comradery was brilliant to see and showed great leadership to. the rest of the year level  It was great to see those who took the time out to dress up. Some notable dress ups included, the Simpsons, Bananas in PJ’s, Harry Potter, several superheroes and Buzz and Woodie.  The day was topped off by 80m character speed walking race down the main straight. A special mention to Josh and Jackson Unthank and Charlie Trezise who broke numerous long standing school records through the day, well done!

Just a reminder that we are entering SAC season for VCE students, and although we try to coordinate the SAC’s to ensure that they are spread out, sometimes students feel like they have many assessments in a short timeframe. The best advice we can offer is to make sure that students are doing a little bit of ongoing preparation each night to spread the load. A 20 - 30 minutes per subject for the classes in the day is more than enough to help consolidate the work. Organisation is the key, and planning set times around sports commitment and work, although tough, will greatly reduce the stress levels.

Yesterday the 12 Biology students went to BioLab and did a Human Growth Hormone Cloning practical. They used DNA manipulation techniques in forming a recombinant plasmid and then placed this as a vector into E.coli for production.

The Year 12 Biology students conducted an experiment on Enzymes as part of the investigation Unit 3 AOS1.
