Dear Parents and Carers
2024 Year of Prayer
In preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year 'Pilgrims of Hope', 2024 has been designated a Year of Prayer by Pope Francis. As such, Pope Francis is calling on the faithful “to pray more fervently to prepare ourselves to live properly this grace-filled event and to experience the power of hope in God.” The Year of Prayer, the Holy Father explained, is dedicated “to rediscovering the great value and absolute need for prayer, prayer in personal life, in the life of the Church, prayer in the world.”
What an incredible opportunity we have to pause and reflect on the role prayer plays in our personal lives and in the life of our school. In the busyness of our lives or the busyness of school life, prayer can become something that is automatic - words said without thought, emotion or reflection, and the challenge Pope Francis is setting for us this year is timely and necessary. Prayer is an absolute expression of faith and hope. I personally couldn't live without it. For me prayer takes many forms; sometimes it is in the form of meditation, sometimes mindfulness, sometimes traditional and often the surfacing of my most inner!
Throughout the year, I hope to share my personal experiences of prayer with our students and what prayer means to me as a model for creating conversations and sharing of the importance of prayer amongst our students and community.
Pope Francis has placed a particular focus on the Our Father, and this presents us with a great opportunity to go back to the basics of prayer.
Our Father,
Who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
I am looking forward to sharing our Year of Prayer journey and with everyone this year.

How does my child receive a Principal's Award?
Class teachers nominate students for Blue Merit Awards which are presented at the weekly assembly. When five Blue Merit Awards have been received, students send them to the school office to be recorded and are then eligible for a Principal’s Award. When students attain their 4th Principal Award, they are awarded a Principal’s Medallion at an assembly. End of Term awards can be included as part of the 5 awards. Please see the "School Handbook" for a full list of eligible awards.
