VM Students Connect with ‘In Touch with Memory Exhibition’ at Holocaust Museum

VM Literacy students visited the Melbourne Holocaust Museum on February 20th to unpack discrimination and racism.

Students were immersed in interactive experiences that involved students decoding historical artefacts and propaganda from WW2. Students also had the priceless opportunity of meeting Abram Goldberg, a 99-year-old Jewish Holocaust survivor who shared his life story allowing students to make real world connections to their learning.

Some students truly excelled on the day including: Leigh-Roy Roe, Emma McQueen, Jobe Matheson, Luka Conic, Ethan Eliott, Daniel Shuttlewood and Axel Finn showing courage and respect during question time.

Overall it was a great day learning about an important part of history. A special thank you to Harry O’Neil and Di Zull for their participation on the day.

Friday Reading Program for VM Literacy Students

Year 11 and 12 VCE VM students have all immersed themselves in a 10-minute reading program every Friday in all scheduled VM Literacy classes. Students are encouraged to visit the library and select reading materials suited to their interests and abilities which they have all been doing with the wonderful guidance of librarian-Georgia Coutts. With some students choosing history books on WW2, The Great Gatsby and The Diary of a Wimpy kid, others shave chosen graphic novels and sporting biographies to read showing range and breadth in their literary tastes.

As the College anticipates the graduation of our first cohort of year 12 VCE VM students in 2024, we hope the reading program lifts student reading comprehension and assists progression in future pathways beyond school.

Well done VM Literacy students!
