Writer’s Workshop: over the next two to three weeks, we will be focusing on writing responses to prompts, using paragraphs, and punctuation in preparation for NAPLAN.

Readers Workshop: we will begin our new study on paragraphs in written texts – noticing them and then transferring our understandings to our own written work.

Mathematics: we will be exploring addition strategies and skills this week such as: rainbow facts, splitting, partitioning and long addition.

Unit of Inquiry: We will continue exploring our unit of inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time, which focuses on Places. This week we will consider what makes our classroom and school an important place, before shifting our lens to global places of significance in the final few weeks of this unit.

Christian Studies: This term we will be exploring the strand: Christian Church through key idea 2, Band A: Students draw conclusions about the purpose of the Christian church in the local community. This focus will link with our where we are in place and time unit of inquiry.

Reminders:

Library Visits 2/3T: Due to timetable considerations and complexities in maintaining a balance of learning throughout the week, we will move our Library time to Tuesdays starting next week. If books are forgotten for returning on Tuesday – there will be other opportunities throughout the week to borrow new books.

Premiers Reading Challenge: This year in 2/3T students will have their own individual records to track the books they read. Students are required to read eight books from the book list and four free choice books. Year 3s will be borrowing yellow dot books from the Library and the Year 2s blue dots. The full list of suitable books for your child can be found online at this link: https://premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au/book-list/

As you read books at home, please feel free to email them to me so I can help your child to add them to their list, or alternatively feel free to visit the classroom before or after school to add them to the list with your child. The lists will be kept at school.

NAPLAN App: Year 3 parents please ensure the NAPLAN App for 2024 is downloaded on your child’s iPad. The national simultaneous practice for NAPLAN is in Week 5.
