Year 7 and 8

A peek into the student lives of our Year 7 and 8 students this term

Year 7

As we embrace the new school year, we extend a warm welcome to our Year 7 students and their families as they embark on an exciting journey into secondary school. The significant milestone of transitioning from primary to secondary education has proven to be a smooth experience, with thanks to families and significant teachers who have shown support and guidance.

Our comprehensive transition program, including our orientation, has been designed to support students to develop skills required to engage with peers in a positive manner, become organised and resilient. Year 7 students are welcomed into an inclusive and positive learning environment, which provides a platform for wellbeing and learning growth.

Year 7 Camp

From Wednesday 21 – Friday 23 February, 140 Year 7 students set off to camp at Phillip Island Adventure Resort. Students thoroughly enjoyed the warm weather, scenery and vast range of adventure activities. Many of our students took a surfing lesson, led by professional instructors from Island Surfboards; students had the privilege of a 2-hour guided tutorial on how to surf. Smith’s Beach again proved to be a beautiful place to build core memories; students swam and played with friends on the sand, we even had many students and staff partake in a game of beach cricket!

The night activities proved to be a giant success! On Wednesday evening we had disco led by a professional DJ and board games including Dungeons and Dragons. On Thursday, students enjoyed a cinematic experience – a great option after a few big days of activities. Students enjoyed many activities such as Laser Strike, flying fox, archery, raft making and the resort’s swimming pool to name a few. Overall, a wonderful experience for all involved. Teachers and staff at the resort were very impressed with the behaviour and manners shown by our cohort, with many compliments passed on.

We are truly proud of our students and grateful for a wholesome trip, well done!

Year 8

Project Rockit Incursion

On the 15 February, our Year 8 cohort had the privilege of a visit from external provider, Project Rockit, who delivered content which explores the positive potential of technology, up-skilling students with online skills to build connected communities, support wellbeing and navigate harmful experiences.

This learning session is significant to help guide our students in a positive way when using online platforms.

Upcoming Camp

Students are currently in the process of preparing for their 3-day camp at Forest Edge which is scheduled for Wednesday 20 March until Friday 22 March. Based in

Neerim East, students will explore the countryside and enjoy river sledding,

crate climb, flying fox and some fun night activities. This important event provides opportunities for students to build on positive relationships with their peers and teachers. It is expected that all students attend the camp.
